This is the beginners guide to manscaping, because even if you don’t know what it means, you should do it. No really, it’s important. If you haven’t tried, or don’t know where to begin, this is for you.
What even is manscaping, and why the heck should you even try it? Manscaping is the term used for male grooming of body hair. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just for your groin area, but also your arms, legs, back, chest and face. It’s hygienic, makes you look better, and most importantly, it’s more appealing to the ladies.
There’s lots of ways to go about manscaping. You can shave, wax, or even try going sci-fi and laser the hair away. Best of all, you can pick any number of different ways to do it. You can decide to wax your back, but use the trimmer for your jimmies. Make sure you’re properly equipped before you start manscaping. If you’re shaving, get new razor blades especially for the job.
Legs and arms
Let’s start off with the easy areas. When it comes to arms and legs, it’s really up to your personal preference. Having super hairy arms and legs is ok. Having completely shaven arms and legs is also ok. Most people like to go for a happy middle ground, and like to trim them to a medium length.
If you do a lot of sports, it’s a good idea not to completely shave your thighs and upper leg area completely. This will reduce chances of chaffing and ingrown hairs. The exception to this rule is of course professional swimmers who shave everything off to be more streamlined.
One thing to consider is also underarm hair. Whilst men get away with having underarm hair, be sure to keep it in check. If stretching your arms looks like opening a popup book of the amazon, then you need a quick trim.
Chest and back
My rule for back hair is that it shouldn’t be there. I’ve dated guys who have had a lot of back hair, and it feels weird when you’re in the throws of passionate sex and you realise you can grab onto their back hair like reigns on a horse. Shaving your back can be a pain though, so I think the best method here is to get it waxed. Otherwise, get your partner or friend to help you.
Chest hair is a lot more down to preferences. Some women love the 70s porno shag rug look. Others like it clean shaven and ready to be oiled up. I personally like it around an inch long, enough to run my hands through but not so much it’s noticeable under your shirt. Because it’s easier to see what you’re doing with your chest, trimmers work fine. If you want to go completely bald, waxing is a good option.
Groin area
Now here’s where things get tricky. When it comes to your man-bush, there’s so many paths you can take. Shave it all off, keep it trim, let it grow wild but controlled ect. Where do you even start?
Start with deciding how much you want to get rid of first. For those who are self conscious about your penis size, get rid of more hair to make your penis look bigger. If you want to still have hair, but like things tidy, give it a close shave up top and completely shave your balls. If you want the wild man look, keep it long but in a contained and designated area.
Tricks for trimming your junk include:
- Stretching out the skin on your ballsack when shaving. This will reduce chances of cutting yourself
- Try shaving the base of the shaft when you have an erection, as it will help you get those hard to reach places. It’ll also give you a good idea of how it’ll look to the ladies.
- Use talcum powder if you get very sweaty or oily before hand
- If you get irritated skin afterwards, use SudoCrem Antiseptic Healing Cream.
- Avoid having sex for the first few days right after shaving
- A good tip is to think of things from the girl’s point of view. If you want a girl to go down on you, would she come back up with hair stuck between her teeth?
When it comes to styles to trim your hair to, start with a bikini cut. No, you’re not going to wear a bikini. But make sure when you’re wearing speedos or tighty-whities that no hair pokes out. The landing strip isn’t just for women. Men have the added extra bonus of making the landing strip merge gracefully with the hair on the belly line.
Beyond that, you can go as designer as you like, with zig-zags and all sorts. Possibly leave experimenting for when you’re more confident with the razor.
Don’t forget the butt
A super important part of manscaping is the butt area. A lot of men seem to forget this. I’ve seen way too many hair cracks in my lifetime, and I’ll tell you, it’s not a sexy look. It might sound unappealing, but you should take the plunge and get rid of the hair there. You can use a mirror to help you see what you’re doing, or go and get it waxed professionally.
