The UK has been in the news a lot recently for their proposed new bills on internet censorship. Various sexual acts including spanking are banned. Many websites face being banned in the UK in the future, however xHamster have brought out data to show that blocking porn doesn’t work.
There has been a big push in the UK for more government control over the internet. This includes updating the Obscene Publications Act, bringing in a stricter form of age verification and also announcing the Investigatory Powers Bill AKA “the most extreme surveillance in the history of western democracy”.
The aim is to protect children from viewing inappropriate material. Although why legal sexual acts such as spanking is banned is still questioned. The new laws and precautions sounds a lot like trying to ban porn in general. However xHamster have come out with data to prove it won’t work.
There are already a lot of countries that ban porn. These include China, India and Russia. In all of these countries there have been visitors to xHamster.
Countries that “banned” xHamster (ranked by total visits to the site in 2016):
India: Over 655 million
Thailand 125,214,402
Turkey 95,447,737
UAE: 83,401,435
Russia 73,545,085
China 60,841,625
Malaysia 42,257,057
Kazakhstan 11,045,297
Iran 8,486,277
Users from these countries use alternative methods such as proxies, VPNs, and Tor. These methods lets them get around government blocks as well as hiding the IP addresses.
Reports also show that banning porn may increase the amount porn people watch. Since the “opt-in” ban in the UK, where users have to call companies and confirm they want access to pornsites, traffic from the UK increased on xHamster.
“A panic over adult content is being used by the UK government to pass a sweeping bill that will allow the government to limit speech and monitor citizens online,” says Alex Hawkins, xHamster spokesperson.
xHamster are directing users to sign a petition to repeal the new laws.
Why humans don’t have a penis bone
Most mammals, including chimpanzees, have a penis bone called a baculum. The baculum has the most variety in shape and size amongst animals, making it one of the most interesting bones. Yet humans don’t have one.
Scientists believe there are two main reasons why humans don’t have a penis bone. Number one is that we don’t have sex for a long enough period of time to necessitate one. Second is that we evovled to favour monogamous relationships over polyamorous ones.
It’s estimated that sex between humans lasts less than 2 minutes. That is the actual penetration part of the sex not including any foreplay. Compare that to the nocturnal lemur who has a long baculum and enjoys sex for around a full hour.
Humans also have sex all year around, and so there is no pressure to have lots and lots of sex during any specific time period. This and the fact that males don’t feel threatened that their partner may be sexed up by another male, means that we don’t really need the baculum.
Pornhub releases Christmas Advert
Christmas is the time of year that various shops in the UK battle it out with Christmas adverts. Each year the adverts get more emotional, more detailed, and pretty soon they will become full length movies I believe.
It’s nice to see PornHub have also decided to join the fray and bring out their own Christmas advert. It ticks all the boxes needed.
- Heart warming story? Check, the advert shows lots of lonely people at Christmas discovering the joy or porn.
- Arts and crafty? Check, the setting is built from paper, card and toy trains.
- Is it snowing? Check
- Is there a slow song in the background? Checkmate.
