One of the many perks of being a guy is having the ability to grow facial hair. Unfortunately, because it’s not common for men to do it all the time, and only during the fall and winter months, it’s tough to maintain upkeep on the additional whiskers on your face. Let’s face it, having scruff and having inches of facial hair is way different.
But with more guys growing out beards as the fall takes shape, one question we wondered was how girls really feel about all that hair on your face. Do they like it? Do they hate it? Do they just wish you kept it groomed?
Well, we have the answer thanks to our pals over at PrimandPrep, who surveyed 334 girls between the ages of 18 and 44 to figure out the answer. The verdict, go ahead and grow it out, but make sure you understand what beard types girls like most — because it makes a difference.
Since we’re always down to help you become the best version of yourselves, we’re giving you beard tips to make sure you don’t turnoff any girls who may be interested in you. So here are some of the beards types girls actually love most, per the PrimandPrep survey.
Short stubble
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that a lot of girls really love the whole stubble look. Hey, there’s a reason why Indiana Jones is still such a huge crush these days. From the survey, 38 percent of girls between ages 25-34 thought a guy with short stubble is the most attractive look. For those between 18-24, 24 percent thought the same, and even 18 percent of 35-44 year-olds agreed. Basically, if you groom yourself to always have a 5 o’clock shadow, you’re going to get lots of looks.
Clean shaven
For girls between the ages of 18-24, the clean shaven look is the way to go, as 38 percent of them said this is the most attractive beard type. So, while many guys like to add a little stubble to their faces to make them a bit more rugged and avoid the baby face, if you don’t have any whiskers, it may not hurt your chances of landing a younger girl.
Long stubble
We’re not quite sure what constitutes long stubble, but, if we had a guess, it’d probably be a five-day 5 o’clock shadow, where you’re between stubble and the full on maintenance of a beard. As it turns out, there are plenty of girls who love this look, too, but it’s not quite as high as some other beard types, with only five percent of girls between 18-24 finding this attractive, 21 percent of middle-aged girls and 33 percent of the older group of women. You’re probably best to either trim it down or keep it groomed than to be in-between.
Full beard
Going with a full beard isn’t easy, as different faces grow different ways. However, for those guys who can do it right, you might want to give it a go, because a fair amount of girls like the look. Unfortunately, the younger girls aren’t big into it, though, with just 17 percent in the 18-24 group saying they like it and 15 percent in the middle-aged group. Maybe unsurprisingly, this beard type was most popular among the oldest group of women polled, with 33 percent saying the full beard is sexiest on a dude.
How can you care for your beard type?
As we all know, whether you go full, stubble or in-between, your beard type needs to still be maintained. That means regularly grooming it, by way of trimming it, exfoliating to avoid ingrown hairs and any bad stench, and, lastly, softening up those whiskers with beard oil. There are an abundance of options out there for oils and other moisturizers, so, if you’re going to grow it out, grow it out the right way and care for it appropriately.
