Cuffing season is basically defined as “the period of autumn and winter, when single people are considered likely to seek settled relationships rather than engage in casual affairs,” per Collins Dictionary. So, if you haven’t already noticed, guys, we’re fully in cuffing season these days.
But, just because we tell you it’s cuffing season, does that really mean that other singles really, actively participate in it? According to a new study, hell yes, because everyone’s looking for someone to cozy up next to as the colder weather hits, so it’s time to start looking for your partner(s).
Although you might think that having a term for, you know, dating, is silly, cuffing season exists, and the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel wanted to prove it to us all. That’s why they surveyed 2,026 of its members to reveal some cold hard numbers about this whole dating trend, finding that 65 percent of respondents believed cuffing season exists. The study also found that 46 percent think about dating more during the winter months, and 41 percent use dating apps more during cuffing season — so you have no excuses when it comes to options, guys.
Does cuffing season really lead to more dates?
Summer might be known for long, warm days on the beach or at the park, leading to lots of opportunities to meet someone, but the colder months don’t seem to offer such opportunities. That’s why many people find themselves swiping nonstop, hoping to find a hookup. In fact, the Coffee Meets Bagel survey found that 63 percent of participants still want to hookup as if it were still summer, which is why they try to find that special somebody to do it with.
But is cuffing season really more effective?
Yep, sure is! According to the Coffee Meets Bagel study, 47 percent of respondents said they were looking for someone during cuffing season because of the casual dating, along with trying to find someone to keep them warm. Additionally, 38 percent simple said it’s the most romantic time of year, thanks to all the holiday cheer and such. C’mon, nobody wants to watch holidays movies alone, right?
How do online dating apps impact cuffing season?
If the Coffee Meets Bagel survey wasn’t enough to convince you that cuffing season does, in fact, exist, a separate study from another online dating site, Badoo, polled 2,000 of its users and found that matches increase 105 percent for girls and 67 percent for guys during the fall and winter months. That’s some incredible info to have at your disposal, guys. Plus, in an AskMen survey done last year, 49 percent of 501 people polled said that they lower their standards during cuffing season, so all the numbers point to dating success!
