Self-driving vehicles have been all the rage over the past few years, with many people thinking that the service will overtake human-driven vehicles. While that may still be debatable, one thing that seems obvious is that, if and when self-driving vehicles fully come to fruition, car sex will increase lots.
I mean, that should be obvious, right? After all, if I had someone driving me around all the time and had a private, but still public, spot like a car to get down and dirty in, you better believe I’m taking advantage of the opportunity. But there’s actually data to back up such an awesome suggestion.
According to research that was published in the most recent issue of the Journal Annals of Tourism Research, people will be more likely to have a little on-the-road sexy time, along with more eating and sleeping time, too. Basically, your Friday and Saturday night’s in will become your weekend plans when self-driving cars hit the road more frequently.
One of the lead researchers on the study, Scott Cohen, told Fast Company why he thinks car sex will increase so much in self-driving cars, along with why they wanted to do this type of study to begin with, per New York Post.
“People will be sleeping in their vehicles, which has implications for roadside hotels. And people may be eating in vehicles that function as restaurant pods,”Scott Cohen, who led the study, told Fast Company magazine.
“That led us to think, besides sleeping, what other things will people do in cars when free from the task of driving? And you can see that in the long association of automobiles and sex that’s represented in just about every coming-of-age movie. It’s not a big leap,” said Cohen, a director of research for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey in England.
Pretty interesting stuff, right? But the hanky panky doesn’t stop there, guys, because the study also predicted there’s going to be increase in prostitution, with more people getting busy in the back of an automobile when more self-driving cars are on the road. Added Cohen:
“It’s not impossible or that far-fetched to imagine the red light district on the move. Prostitution doesn’t need to be legal for this to happen. Plenty of illegal activities happen in cars,” Cohen told the magazine.
He added, “Where prostitution is legal, and regulations allow AVs to develop fast and be on roads quickly, we could see this come together rapidly. Europe is one of those places.”
Self-driving vehicles may have some kinks to still work out before humans trust them to get them to and from their destinations safely, but, with an expected 60 percent of Americans having already had sex in a car, this study proves that that number should rise even more. Don’t you just love technology?
