This week we look at a new phone app that’s been created to help couples legally consent to sex. In other news, an Irish woman marries a 300 pirate ghost.
We really can’t tell if this phone app is serious or a practical joke, welcome to the strange world of LegalFling. No, it’s not a casual hookup app for lawyers, LegalFling promises an end to difficult Twitter questions about your past sexual behaviour.
It’s inspired by the #MeToo hashtag that’s tearing up the showbiz world. The idea is that when you meet a new partner, you both sign a contract to legally consent to have sex.
Download the LegalFling app and users can set out what sexual activities they do and do not consent to. They can even set penalties for if the agreement is broken. An example being if homemade sex-tapes leak onto the internet.
Problems with the app range from the practical, can you imagine a bigger mood killer than signing a consent contract just before the sexual act?; To the ethical, consent isn’t fixed. Consent is fluid, it can be given and taken away at any moment.
The app seems like an attempt to fix a complex sexual problem by people who we are assuming don’t get much sex.
Sadly, LegalFling maybe the most topical dating app ever. It promises to fix problems with consent and revenge porn, it’s a phone app and uses blockchain technology. No wonder this story went around the world. It’s a journalists dream. We just pray it’s a parody.
Irish mum marries 300-year-old pirate ghost
“Some people are saying I’m a nutjob,” Amanda Teague from Drogheda told The Sun. “But obviously anyone who knows me has a different view.”
Teague’s husband, Jack, was a Haitian pirate before he copped it 300 years ago. Luckily Teague found a way to communicate with him and married him.
The two have a normal relationship including going out for dinners, to the movies and various parties. Jack is able to buy her gifts by communicating to one of her daughters.
As for sex, Teague explains,
“It is well known that people often feel a spirit touch their hands, their face or their hair.
“The only difference with having a sexual relationship with a spirit is obviously that sense of touch goes a lot deeper.
“You can feel the weight of the spirit, their touch, the pressure. You can literally feel the physical act of what the spirit is doing to you, and the spirit can feel it, too.”
“For me, it is much more about a spiritual and emotional connection than it is about the physical looks and the physical body.”
Jack is powerful enough to turn on stereos and switch lights on so it’s easy to see the appeal. He also just happens to look like Pirates of the Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow, only he’s black instead of white.
Coincidentally, Amanda Teague used to be a Captain Jack Sparrow impersonator herself. She and Jack will be writing a book about how other single people can meet hot, desirable spirits.
