6 ways to better yourself and find happiness

Self-improvement is a major part of progressing as a person, learning from mistakes and trying different things to stay focused each day. With a number of different ways to find happiness and self-confidence, we offer up a few tips on ways that you can experience self-improvement.

Go shopping

Regardless of if you’re a guy or girl, shopping is a good way to reduce stress and stay preoccupied with something other than the day-to-day routines we all fall into. It can be as simple as walking around a mall or simply window shopping by strolling up and down a street with small shops, but, bottom line is, it helps.

Even if you’re not planning on spending a dime, shopping can lead to meaningful conversations and spark ideas because of seeing something new. Stimulating the mind is a major factor in self-improvement.

Volunteer

Anytime someone puts other people before themselves, it’s, naturally, a positive feelings that leaves them fulfilled. That’s why volunteering should be considered when looking for self-improvement, as it requires sacrifice of one’s time and energy to do.

Rather than meet up with friends on a sunny weekend, consider volunteering at a race or by getting involved with a group to feel better about yourself, meet new people and expand your interests. The people you’re helping will allow you to forget about the little things going on in your own life and, hopefully, put things into perspective.

Finish a project

We all have goals and interests, so, for all those “bucket list” moments, now’s the time to fulfill them by finishing a project and experiencing some self-improvement while doing so.

Finishing a project will help stay focused on something that doesn’t require deadlines and pressures from your real work, which allows you to complete things at your pace.

This can be something as simple as rearranging furniture in your living room to putting together a business plan for a bar idea you’ve always had. Now’s the time to do it.

Buy coffee for someone random

Yes, there’s such thing as karma, so doing a random act of kindness can go a long way in dictating whether yours will be good or bad.

It’s easy for all of us to get so caught up in the things we have going on in our lives, but doing something as simple as spontaneously buying the coffee of the person in line behind us at Starbucks is a good way to feel self-improvement. It’s also something most people have never even done once in their lives, so it’ll leave a more fulfilling feeling for you if done.

A random act of kindness is good for the person on the receiving end, but it’s more so something that should bring happiness to the giving person, serving as a good reminder that, no matter what comes up in a day, to never let things get too high or too low.

Hit the gym

It’s no secret that working out is a great stress reliever, with your body releasing endorphins that reduce your perception of pain and trigger a positive feeling in the body. For that reason alone, a regular gym routine is important to self-improvement.

Most people associate the benefits of working out to all be physical — which can be true — but, really, people who workout are generally happier and satisfied with their lives because of the mental aspect of doing so.

Find a mentor

In the world of social media, where everyone has a voice that wants to be seen/heard, slowing down and listening is often underrated. But, how a person spends his/her time to do so is important, so find a mentor who can help progress your own life through his/her experiences.

This person can be older, younger or the same age, but it should be someone who share similar interests as you, and who has accomplished many of the things you set to achieve.

Don’t look at this person as competition, but, instead, a resource towards your own self-improvement who will keep you accountable for the goals you set out for.
