Do women like bald guys? It’s a question that guys everywhere have asked themselves for centuries, with about 25 percent of men beginning to bald around 30 years old, with about two-thirds either completely bald or having a balding pattern by the time they reach 60.
The thing is, while going bald might be the most frustrating thing for men and can lead to decreased confidence, it might not hurt your chances with girls. That’s right, even though you’ve lost that luscious mane atop your head, owning up to the thinning hair and shaving it all off has actually been proven to be a major turn on for girls.
According to research from Social Psychological and Personality Science, via Psychology Today, men who went bald weren’t looked at by girls as any less attractive when given a series of photos. In fact, in the study, bald men were perceived to be about one year older, slightly more agreeable, and more dominant.
In a separate piece, via Thrillist — who polled 50 girls about their thoughts on baldness — 76 percent of respondents said they didn’t mind dating a bald guy. Of course, there’s a caveat to that, with girls offering up some advice on how to go bald with grace and accept that fact that it’s time to just get rid of the remaining, thin strands.
“Get a good haircut! Nothing worse than a big balding spot in a bushel of hair!”
A few women came out swinging on this one; a full 10% of pollsters suggested a courtesy trim to just keep everything even and kempt so you don’t join ranks with Doc Brown. If you can’t find a happy medium, then…
“Shave off the rest, stop hiding it.”
Still skeptical about the whole going bald thing? Research published in the New York Post showed similar results as above. In a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, guys and girls were asked to rate photos of men to determine attractiveness, confidence and dominance. The results? Bald men came out on top.
Participants consistently rated natural bald men, and those who had their scalps digitally enhanced to be bald for the study, as stronger than those with thick or thinning hair.
In addition, baldness was found to make the men appear taller.
…
The study concluded: “Instead of spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss, the counterintuitive prescription of this research to men experiencing male pattern baldness is to shave their heads.
“The results of these comparisons should shed light on whether men with thinning hair can alter their interpersonal standing by shaving their heads.”
So, while baldness might be driving you insane and leading to some insecurity, instead of relying on a bad combover that shows patches of baldness, it’s best to just take a deep breath and shave it all off. According to various research, that’s the best way for girls to find you attractive, as it shows confidence to take the leap and display that shiny dome of yours off proudly.
